Klaipėda students seek housing as dorms face capacity issues

Klaipėda University is preparing to accommodate approximately 90% of its incoming first-year students in dormitories, with a new 170-bed facility slated for completion in December. Benediktas Petrauskas, the university's Vice-Rector for Infrastructure and Development, stated that all first-year students living more than 50 kilometers away will be provided with housing.

Klaipėda State College also assures sufficient dormitory space for its students. Aretas Lenkauskienė, head of the college's Accommodation Services, confirmed that all students requiring housing will be accommodated. While demand is high, the college has two dormitories with 300 beds and additional rooms in a Debreceno street facility, which also houses international students. Lenkauskienė anticipates that even students from other institutions may find space, potentially by October.

First-year students who come to Klaipėda University from more than 50 km away will be provided with a place to live. In addition, KU is building and will complete the construction of a new 170-bed dormitory this year. All students who wish to do so will be able to move in there without major restrictions from December of this year.

Vocational training centers in Klaipėda are also contributing to student housing. The Klaipėda Center for Vocational Training has two dormitories available for its students and can also accommodate college and university students. The Klaipėda Tourism School's dormitory offers modern amenities, including TVs, computers, printers, and laundry facilities with washing machines and dryers.

We can completely satisfy all the demand that exists. There are many who want to, and we have two good dormitories on Taikos Avenue – 300 beds, and on Debreceno Street – here the rooms are divided into blocks. We accommodate foreign students here. We are already accepting applications from students who will study at other schools. It seems we will have places for them too. Maybe not right from September, maybe only from October, but there should be free places.
