Klaipėda to Host Second Oktoberfest in Late September

Klaipėda is gearing up for its second annual Oktoberfest, scheduled for the final weekend of September. The celebration promises a vibrant mix of tradition and local flair, aiming to immerse attendees in the spirit of the Bavarian festival.

The festivities commence with a ceremonial parade from Jonas Kalnelis to Piliavietė, featuring an orchestra and a traditional beer barrel. "This is a way to experience life in the port city, the history of this region's culture, trade, crafts, and celebrations," stated festival director Jurga Klimaitė-Riebling.

Upon arrival at the decorated Piliavietė tent, participants will witness the official barrel tapping, followed by the first pours and the singing of "Ein Prosit!" The Bavarian band "JuziBand" will kick off the official start of the festivities. Nijolė Pareigytė-Rukaitienė will host the opening night, also performing with her band. The energetic "Memelband" will add a rock and roll element, encouraging dancing.

Attendees are encouraged to participate in costume contests, with prizes for the most impressive Oktoberfest attire. Saturday's events, starting at 5 p.m., will be hosted by Dainius Martinaitis and feature "JuziBand" followed by the popular Lithuanian band "Biplan." "We are sea song writers – we've written quite a few about the sea. And this summer we were by the sea a lot, not to mention Klaipėda, which we love very much! Of course, it will be fun to celebrate Klaipėda's Oktoberfest together," said "Biplan" vocalist Maksas Melmanas, who has lived in Germany for many years. He described Oktoberfest as a lively carnival, comparing the amount of food and drink consumed to a "stomach bomb."

The festival will culminate with a performance by "Antikvariniai Kašpirovskio Dantys." The second evening will also include contests for the best mustache and best table setup. New this year, a portion of the tent's tables can be reserved in advance, offering a convenient spot for groups with snacks and drinks included. Registration is available online.
