Klaipėda University Granted Teacher Training Center Status

Klaipėda University has officially received the status of a teacher training center, a move expected to bolster the quality and availability of pedagogical education in Western Lithuania. The Ministry of Education, Science, and Sport announced the designation, highlighting its potential to expand study programs and enhance professional development for educators.

Minister of Education, Science, and Sport Raminta Popovienė emphasized the critical need for a robust teacher training base in the region, particularly given the current shortage of teachers in Western Lithuania. "We need a strong teacher training base in this region, with more choices for pedagogical studies," Popovienė stated. She expressed satisfaction that Klaipėda University has committed to becoming a center for teacher training, anticipating that this will not only increase the university's visibility but also help meet the growing demand for teachers.

Klaipėda University Rector Artūras Razbadauskas affirmed the university's commitment to elevating the quality of its pedagogical programs. Currently, the university trains educators for primary, preschool, and pre-primary education, as well as social pedagogy, physical education, and teachers of English, geography, and history. The new status is expected to further strengthen these existing specializations.

The university also plans to foster collaboration among researchers, municipalities, schools, and other educational partners. This collective effort aims to cultivate modern, motivated educators prepared for the challenges of the profession. Klaipėda University becomes the fourth institution in Lithuania to hold this designation, joining established centers at Vilnius University, Vytautas Magnus University, and a joint center involving Kaunas University of Technology, Lithuanian Sports University, Mykolas Romeris University, and Vilnius College.

We already train primary education, preschool and pre-primary education teachers, social pedagogues, as well as physical education, English, geography and history teachers. By becoming a teacher training center, we will further strengthen these directions.
