Klaipėda welcomes a floating resort with its own brewery

Klaipėda is hosting what is often called a floating resort: the AIDAmar cruise ship, which brought more than 2,400 tourists to the Lithuanian port on the final day of summer.

The ship is scheduled to remain at Klaipėda’s cruise terminal until 8 p.m., according to Romena Savickienė, head of the city’s tourism information center. Most of its passengers are German tourists, and German is the main language on board.

AIDAmar features its own brewery, where beer is made from seawater, along with a large spa complex, theaters and a market. The ship also hosts traditional German events resembling Oktoberfest. Its sports facilities include a running track and a golf practice area, while passengers can also play billiards, table football and other games.

Built in Germany in 2012, the cruise ship is about 253 meters long and has a gross tonnage of more than 71,000 tons. It has 14 decks and more than 700 passenger cabins. Genoa is its port of registration, so it sails under the Italian flag. Klaipėda is due to receive two more cruise ships this week: the 294-meter MSC Magnifica on September 1 and the 199-meter Europa on September 3.
