Klopp warns German media: I'll quit if my family is harassed

Jurgen Klopp, the newly appointed coach of the German national football team, has issued a stern warning to the German media, stating he will not hesitate to step down if his family becomes the target of reporting or pressure during his tenure.

Klopp, officially introduced as Germany's coach on Friday, July 24, 2026, has signed a contract through the 2030 World Cup, succeeding Julian Nagelsmann. In his first press conference, Klopp acknowledged he is prepared for criticism of his coaching performance. However, he explicitly requested that the media respect his family's private life. "I will receive a very decent salary. If tomorrow Jurgen Klopp performs poorly, I will leave. If the DFB (German Football Association) says this job must stop, then it's over. But if you don't let my family live peacefully, I will leave. I will leave immediately," Klopp declared, as reported by Sky Sports.

The 59-year-old coach recognized the immense pressure associated with managing the German national team, referencing the media scrutiny faced by his predecessor, Julian Nagelsmann. "I know there are other countries that treat their national coaches worse. I love this job, but I am also ready to quit if necessary," he added.

Klopp described coaching the German national team as the pinnacle of his career. He pledged to dedicate his full capabilities to the role, supported by his coaching staff. "Jurgen Klopp will not have another career after the national team. This is the peak, the highest point of my football career as a coach. I will give everything I have, along with the best coaching staff I have," he stated.
