KMT campaign accuses rival of 'snatching credit' for MRT project

The campaign office for KMT New Taipei mayoral candidate Li Shih-chi has accused rival candidate Su Chiao-hui of "snatching credit" for the Sanying Line MRT project. Spokesperson Kuo Yin-lan criticized Su for disregarding the years of hard work by New Taipei Mayor Hou Yu-ih and city officials.

Kuo stated that the Sanying Line's timeline is clear, with its comprehensive planning report approved and preliminary work underway before Su was elected as a legislator. She alleged that Su is attempting to claim personal credit for the project, even rushing to announce its operational approval before the city government. "It's like someone planting trees, and Qiao-hui enjoying the shade," Kuo said, referencing Su's name.

The timeline shows that preliminary work began in 2014, the planning report was approved in 2015, and main construction started in 2016. Su became a legislator in 2016. Kuo also pointed out that during the 10 years of construction, the city government faced rising costs, and Su's father, Su Tseng-chang, cut the forward-looking budget for rail construction while serving as premier. Kuo noted that Su Chiao-hui remained silent during this period.

Kuo accused Su of "pretending to respect Hou while actually undermining him," citing Su's announcement of the Sanying Line's operational approval on the same day as the city government and mayor, without mentioning former Mayor Eric Chu, who oversaw planning, or Mayor Hou, who saw it completed. Kuo urged Su to give proper respect and credit to the frontline engineering and city staff who contributed to the project.
