Kogi poly suspends six lecturers over sex-for-marks, cultism allegations

The Kogi State Polytechnic has suspended six lecturers following serious allegations, including sex-for-marks, cultism, and the unauthorized sale of academic materials to students. The institution's management took action after investigations into these forbidden practices.

According to a statement from the polytechnic's spokesperson, John Amos Onimisi, the suspensions occurred on Wednesday, July 22, 2026. While six lecturers were suspended for the unauthorized sale of handouts and textbooks, an additional lecturer was suspended for alleged sexual harassment. These actions come amid growing concerns about the academic environment at the polytechnic.

Sources within the institution have described a decline in disciplinary measures, leading to an atmosphere of anxiety among students, particularly female students who reportedly live in fear of cultist activities and the pervasive sex-for-marks syndrome. Some lecturers are accused of openly seducing female students, threatening them with failure unless they comply with sexual demands or pay significant sums of money, ranging from N70,000 to N80,000, to pass their examinations.

These alleged transgressions have resurfaced under the current management, with some sources attributing the rise in misconduct to a perceived lack of stringent oversight. One specific incident involved a lecturer allegedly instructing a female student to book a hotel room at her own expense before he would meet her. Despite the student reporting the incident, sources claim the matter was compromised, and the student faced intimidation instead of justice.
