Korpatsch Triumphs for First Time at Hamburg's Rothenbaum

Tamara Korpatsch fulfilled a lifelong dream by winning the Hamburg Ladies Open, her second WTA Tour title. The 31-year-old triumphed in her hometown, defeating Hungary's Anna Bondar 6-3, 6-3 in a commanding performance.

Korpatsch's victory echoes the historic win of German tennis legend Steffi Graf, who was the last German player to win at the Rothenbaum venue in 1992. The win earned Korpatsch 32,520 euros in prize money and propelled her into the Top 50 of the world rankings for the first time in her career.

The match saw Korpatsch start with intense focus, quickly establishing a 3-0 lead on the well-attended Centre Court. Although Bondar broke back to trail 3-4, Korpatsch immediately regained the advantage with a re-break and secured the first set shortly after. In the second set, she took her opponent's serve at 3-2 and converted her first match point in the ninth game to seal the celebrated victory.

Earlier in the day, tournament ambassador Andrea Petkovic and former world No. 1 Martina Hingis engaged in an exhibition match. The two former top players appeared to enjoy their contest, which Hingis ultimately won in three shortened sets. In the Hamburg Wheelchair Open, also held for the first time as part of the event, Lizzy de Greef defeated Aniek van Koot 6-2, 6-2 in an all-Dutch final.
