Kostas Papanikolaou, the "eternal lion" of Olympiacos, has achieved a lifelong dream by captaining his team to their third EuroLeague title. Since joining the Piraeus club from Aris in 2009, Papanikolaou has been a cornerstone of the team's success, evolving from a promising young talent into a revered leader.

His journey with Olympiacos began under the guidance of coach Dušan Ivković, who recognized the young forward's potential. Papanikolaou quickly became known for his defensive prowess and tenacious play. He was part of the historic 2012 EuroLeague championship team, celebrating wildly with fans after Georgios Printezis's iconic shot. A year later, he helped secure a back-to-back title in London.

After a stint in the NBA with the Houston Rockets and a brief return to Olympiacos, Papanikolaou returned to Piraeus in 2016. He has since led the team through both triumphs and challenges. The recent victory on May 25th marked a significant personal milestone, as he lifted the EuroLeague trophy as captain after four previous attempts to reach the final without winning. Papanikolaou now stands alone in Olympiacos history as the only player to have won three EuroLeague titles with the club – two as a young player under Ivković and Bartzokas, and one as the captain and leader of the current squad.
