KPK Arrests Pemalang Regent Anom Widiyantoro in Jakarta

Indonesia's Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has arrested Anom Widiyantoro, the Regent of Pemalang, in Jakarta as part of a sting operation. The arrest, which also involved detaining four other individuals in the capital, is reportedly linked to alleged gratification and the illicit practice of buying and selling positions within the Pemalang Regency government.

Five of them who were secured in Jakarta are currently undergoing examination at the KPK Merah Putih Building.

The KPK stated that the operation, which began on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, also led to the apprehension of 16 more people in Pemalang and one in Purworejo Regency, bringing the total number of individuals detained to 21. While the specifics of the case are still under investigation, KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo indicated that the matter involves alleged bribery or other forms of illicit acceptance related to the appointment of officials.

During the sting operation, KPK investigators seized approximately 2 billion Indonesian rupiah in cash. The exact connection of this sum to the alleged corruption charges against Widiyantoro is yet to be fully disclosed as the investigators continue to gather evidence and conduct further analysis before officially announcing the case details.

The case that ensnared Anom is suspected to be related to gratification or other receipts connected with the practice of buying and selling positions within the Pemalang Regency Government.

Anom Widiyantoro, who previously had a long career in state-owned construction company PT Wijaya Karya (WIKA), stepped down from his corporate role to contest the 2024 Pemalang regional election. He ran on a platform supported by a coalition of several political parties, ultimately winning the election with 44.51 percent of the vote.
