KPK: Envelope return doesn't erase criminal elements in bribery case

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) maintains that the return of an envelope by Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni does not erase the criminal nature of the alleged bribery. The investigation into the processing of recommendations for releasing limited production forest areas will proceed, with investigators examining the significance of the returned envelope within the case's construction.

KPK's acting Director of Investigation, Achmad Taufik Husein, emphasized that returning funds does not nullify criminal charges. Investigators are focused on determining if the envelope's return is linked to the alleged bribery for forest area release recommendations. This includes tracing the origin of the funds, their movement, and their status as potential evidence.

Information is being collected from cooperative treasurers, the staff of Kuantan Singingi Regent Suhardiman Amby, and other individuals knowledgeable about the alleged money flow. The KPK has not yet concluded whether the money will be crucial evidence. Taufik stated that the KPK's actions are driven solely by investigative needs, unaffected by any public statements made by the parties involved.

Antoni had previously clarified that Amby left an envelope after a meeting, which Antoni's aide returned 17 days before the KPK's sting operation. Antoni claimed to have proof of the return. However, Taufik asserted that the KPK's investigation relies on witness testimonies, search documents, seized evidence, and findings during the investigation process. The KPK will also examine all meetings between Amby and Antoni related to the forest area release recommendations, looking into the discussions and any potential money exchanges.
