KPK: Minister's envelope contained Singapore dollars from farmers' contributions

The Indonesian Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is investigating an alleged bribery attempt involving a regional head and the Minister of Forestry. Bupati Suhardiman Amby of Kuantan Singingi is accused of offering Singapore dollars to Minister Raja Juli Antoni.

The KPK revealed that the money was reportedly collected from 914 farmers who are members of a Village Unit Cooperative (KUD). This collection is suspected to be linked to the processing of permits for the release of 1,828 hectares of Limited Production Forest (HPT) area.

KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that the collected money was converted into Singapore dollars before allegedly being given to the minister. The commission is scrutinizing this collection process, suspecting it was for the purpose of facilitating the forest area release.

Minister Raja Juli Antoni has reportedly confirmed the incident and reported the attempted gratification to the KPK. He also provided a timeline of the event, including when the money was received and subsequently returned. The KPK is now examining this statement along with other evidence and witness testimonies to determine the exact amount, denominations, and the specific purpose behind the Bupati's alleged offer.
