KPK Searches South Jakarta Immigration Office

Indonesia's Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) conducted a search of the South Jakarta Immigration Office on Tuesday, August 4, 2026. The operation is linked to an ongoing investigation into alleged extortion related to the processing of residency permits for foreign nationals.

The investigation has reportedly ensnared high-ranking officials, including Silmy Karim, who served as the Deputy Minister of Immigration and Correctional Facilities for the 2024-2026 period, and his predecessor, Saffar Muhammad Godam. The KPK's investigation into alleged corruption in processing foreign residency permits began with a sting operation (OTT) on June 2-3, 2026, which was the commission's eleventh such operation that year.

On June 4, 2026, the KPK named eight suspects in connection with the alleged extortion scheme, which operated within the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, now the Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Facilities, between 2022 and 2026. Besides Karim and Godam, other suspects include Jaya Saputra, Head of the Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration for West Java; Ronald Arman Abdullah, Head of the Special Non-TPI Class I Immigration Office in West Jakarta; and several other officials involved in residency permit processing and status changes.

Investigators estimate that the suspects collectively gained approximately 145.5 billion Indonesian rupiah (roughly $9.5 million USD) through these alleged illegal practices over the four-year period. The KPK stated that the results of the search would be updated later by the commission's spokesperson.
