KPK seizes Rp 2.7 billion cash in Pemalang regent extortion case

Investigators from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) have seized Rp 2.7 billion in cash during a sting operation in Pemalang Regency, Central Java, which began on Tuesday, July 28, 2026. The money is allegedly the proceeds of extortion orchestrated by Pemalang Regent Anom Widiyantoro against various local government officials and private sector individuals.

KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo confirmed the seizure, stating the funds were found in multiple locations, including bags and suitcases. "The money displayed here amounts to Rp 2.7 billion," Prasetyo announced at the KPK headquarters in South Jakarta on Thursday, July 30, 2026.

Prasetyo detailed that Rp 461 million was found in Jakarta during Widiyantoro's arrest, while another Rp 1.2 billion was recovered in Purworejo, Central Java, during the apprehension of Lilik Budi Suprianto, a private individual linked to a Non-Governmental Organization. Funds from Mohamad Haris, a close confidant of the regent, were also confiscated.

The KPK has officially named four individuals as suspects in this extortion case: Regent Anom Widiyantoro (AWI), his confidant Mohamad Haris (GHA), KPK administrative staff Setya Budi Dias (DIS), and Dias's father, Lilik Budi Suprianto (LBS). The investigation originated from public complaints regarding alleged extortion within the Pemalang Regency government.
