KPK uncovers new evidence in Rejang Lebong corruption probe

Indonesia's Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has uncovered new evidence in its investigation into alleged bribery linked to environmental projects in Rejang Lebong, Bengkulu. Investigators found that private companies implicated in the case were not only involved in projects within Rejang Lebong but also undertook similar work in other regions.

This discovery has led the KPK to broaden its investigation beyond the initial scope, which centered on the non-active Regent of Rejang Lebong, Muhammad Fikri Thobari. The commission is now exploring potential connections between the private entities and procurement projects in other areas, looking into the flow of money and the relationships involved.

Director of Investigation at the KPK, Achmad Taufik Husein, stated on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, that the case is still in the general investigation phase. He indicated that more individuals would be questioned as investigators gather information. The probe is not solely focused on local government officials but also on the role of private parties and their involvement in the projects.
