Kranzbergkogel: Firefighting continues after forest fire near Schneizlreuth

Firefighting efforts are continuing for a forest fire on Kranzbergkogel, west of Schneizlreuth in the Berchtesgadener Land, Germany. As of the morning of August 6, 2026, police reported that "smoldering embers are still present. Ground-based firefighting is still ongoing."

Authorities are currently evaluating whether to deploy a firefighting helicopter later in the day. However, the situation did not worsen overnight. The fire, which ignited on Tuesday, had not been fully contained by Wednesday despite intensive efforts from both air and ground crews.

Three helicopters were involved in the operation: two for extinguishing the flames and one equipped with a thermal imaging camera. The Bavarian State Forests reported that approximately 0.5 hectares of protected forest land have been impacted by the blaze.

The fire was initially detected after a smoke report on Tuesday. The ongoing operations aim to fully extinguish the remaining hot spots and prevent any resurgence of the fire.
