Kremlin says renewed trilateral talks on Ukraine remain possible, but timing is unclear

The Kremlin says it has not ruled out restarting trilateral talks with Washington and Kyiv, but it is still too early to discuss where or when they might take place.

“We also do not rule out the possibility of resuming trilateral talks, but at this stage it is still too early to say anything about the venue or exact dates,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

The statement came after Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner visited Kyiv for the first time and held talks with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on ending the war with Russia. The pair had visited Moscow earlier and met President Vladimir Putin. Their Kyiv visit followed that meeting by one day.

Zelenskyy and the American representatives described the discussions positively, but none referred to a breakthrough. “Things are no longer the way they were before. Zelenskyy said the war appeared likely to continue through the winter and called for European support if that happened. He also said Ukraine would hold talks with the United States, France and Germany, and repeated his view that territorial issues should be settled only in a meeting between the leaders of the two countries. “The most important thing is to achieve peace for Ukraine, a dignified, reliable and lasting peace. Ukrainian railway officials later said the U.S. representatives had left Kyiv, posting a photograph of them beneath a station sign reading “Peace Express”.
