Kumamoto 7.1 Earthquake: Chen Chi-mai Expresses Concern, Wishes Kumamoto Friends Well

Following a magnitude 7.1 earthquake in Kumamoto, Japan, Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai extended his city's concern and support. He conveyed messages of sympathy to Kumamoto Prefecture Governor Hideyuki Kimura and Kumamoto Mayor Kazufumi Yamashita, relaying the well wishes of Kaohsiung citizens.

Chen highlighted the deep and long-standing relationship between Kaohsiung and Kumamoto. He noted their collaborative efforts in advancing the semiconductor industry, as well as in education, culture, and urban cooperation. Just the day before the earthquake, a Kaohsiung city delegation had met with their Kumamoto counterparts to discuss ongoing collaborations.

Kaohsiung and Kumamoto have maintained deep exchanges for many years, and the two places have worked together to promote the semiconductor industry, education, culture, and urban cooperation.

Expressing a wish for the earthquake's impact to be minimized, Chen stated that Kaohsiung stands ready to provide any necessary assistance if needed. The mayor's office had already conveyed this offer to the Kumamoto authorities.
