Kütahya CHP mayors and organizations join NEW Party

A significant number of local officials and party members from Turkey's Republican People's Party (CHP) in Kütahya have switched their allegiance to the NEW Party. The move follows the CHP's Central Executive Board's decision on July 22 to remove Kütahya Provincial Chairman Tamer Yenikaya from his position.

On July 29, Yenikaya, along with other party executives and numerous members, officially joined the NEW Party. Announcing the collective resignation and defection, Yenikaya stated their objective is to pursue a path to power without getting bogged down in past internal party disputes. "From now on, our concern will be the concerns of the worker, the farmer, the youth, and the retiree," Yenikaya declared, signaling a shift in focus towards broader societal issues.

Yenikaya revealed that the group joining the NEW Party includes Eyüp Kahveci, the Mayor of Kütahya; Lütfi Mutlu, the Mayor of Şaphane; and Zekeriya Yılmaz, the Mayor of Dumlupınar. Additionally, municipal and provincial council members, district chairpersons, and members of the women's and youth branches have also defected, indicating a substantial loss for the CHP in the region.

This mass departure represents a notable challenge for the CHP in Kütahya, as it signifies a significant shift in local political alignment. The NEW Party appears poised to gain considerable grassroots support and electoral influence in the province following this influx of experienced local politicians and party cadres.
