Kuwait arrests man and disposes of car after video shows reckless driving

Kuwaiti authorities arrested a man and disposed of his vehicle after a video showing him driving recklessly went viral.

The General Traffic Department said it conducted the relevant investigations before apprehending the man and referring him to the Central Prison. Authorities also seized the car.

Article 33 of Kuwait’s traffic law provides for imprisonment of more than one year and up to three years, a fine of between 600 and 1,000 dinars, or either penalty, for listed violations. The law includes reckless or negligent driving that endangers the driver or others, or threatens lives and property.

The article also allows a court, on its own initiative or at the Interior Ministry’s request, to order confiscation of a vehicle after a conviction. The Kuwaiti authority said it would not be lenient with anyone who threatens road users or puts their lives and property at risk.
