Kuwait Authority Warns Against Illegal Dumping of Construction Waste

Kuwait's Environment Public Authority (EPA) has issued a strong appeal to the public, urging them to cease the illegal dumping of demolition and construction waste. The authority stressed that such materials must be transported to designated sites, framing proper disposal as an environmental, legal, and social responsibility.

Shaikha Al-Ibrahim, Director of the Public Relations and Media Department at the EPA, stated that the authority is actively monitoring the environmental consequences of ongoing cleanup operations. These efforts run parallel to a campaign by the Kuwait Municipality aimed at removing encroachments across various governorates. Al-Ibrahim highlighted that random waste disposal directly contravenes Article (33) of the Environmental Protection Law, which prohibits discarding waste anywhere except in designated containers or locations.

Beyond marring the aesthetic appeal of residential areas, the EPA noted that improperly disposed waste can obstruct traffic, pose risks to road users, and generate negative environmental effects. Consequently, broad community cooperation is deemed essential to curb these practices. The Environmental Protection Law stipulates penalties for violations, including fines up to 500 Kuwaiti dinars. Offenders are also required to rectify the situation at their own expense.
