Kuwait's CITRA Receives 156 Fraud Reports in July, Websites Top Scam List

Kuwait's Communications and Information Technology Regulatory Authority (CITRA) reported handling 156 fraud and scam attempts in July, as cybercriminals continue to target internet and mobile users with suspicious messages, malicious links, and fraudulent phone calls.

According to statistics released by CITRA, fraudulent websites constituted the largest portion of reports, with 54 cases. Phone calls followed closely with 52 reports, while WhatsApp messages accounted for 26 and social media platforms for 24.

CITRA is urging the public to remain vigilant against online fraud and to report any suspicious messages, links, or calls immediately. This helps authorities track and combat cybercrime more effectively. The authority also issued a warning to users, advising them not to disclose personal, financial, or banking information to unknown or untrusted parties.

Scammers frequently employ fake websites, phishing messages, and deceptive phone calls to steal sensitive data. CITRA has consistently encouraged citizens and residents to exercise caution when interacting with unsolicited communications and to verify the authenticity of any request for personal information before responding.
