Kuwait's Ministry of Justice regulates contracts for employees with revoked nationality

Kuwait's Ministry of Justice has introduced new measures to regulate the procedures for signing and renewing employment contracts for individuals whose citizenship has been revoked. These regulations, issued under directives from the Civil Service Commission and the Cabinet, aim to govern the continued entitlement of certain employee categories to their benefits.

The measure applies to four categories of employees affected by citizenship revocation: female employees under Article 8 of the Kuwaiti Nationality Law, those recognized for distinguished service, individuals from the 1965 census, and children of Kuwaiti women. Contract terms vary, with a two-year duration for Article 8 female employees and one-year renewable contracts for others. All renewals must be completed at least one month before the contract's expiration.

Employees are mandated to visit the Administrative Affairs Department to finalize contracting or renewal procedures within the stipulated timeframes. Failure to comply may lead to administrative and financial measures, including the precautionary suspension of salary payments until the procedures are completed. Those affected by future decrees or decisions must also report to the ministry within one month of the issuance.

The ministry has also outlined procedures for job title, qualification, or work location changes, requiring employees to sign new contracts within one month of the decision. Additionally, the measure addresses the extension of social security coverage for certain employees who have regained their original citizenship, aligning with Public Institution for Social Security directives. Compliance with these regulations is a prerequisite for the continued disbursement of financial entitlements.
