Kuwait's power grid withstands summer challenges amid Iranian attacks

Kuwait's Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy has declared success in managing the nation's power grid through the demanding summer of 2026. Officials highlighted the achievement, noting it occurred despite significant challenges, including Iranian attacks targeting power generation facilities. The ministry credits a combination of leadership, dedicated staff efforts, and strategic planning for maintaining grid stability.

According to data released, four primary factors contributed to this success. Firstly, the National Committee for Energy and Water Conservation, in collaboration with other ministries and the industrial sector, launched public awareness campaigns to encourage reduced electricity consumption during peak hours. This initiative aimed to alleviate strain on the grid during periods of highest demand.

Secondly, Kuwait activated its connection to the Gulf electricity grid. This interconnection proved crucial for ensuring grid stability and managing the increased power consumption typically experienced from June through September. The third key element was the timely completion of maintenance work on electricity and water generation units, ensuring they were operational before the summer season commenced.

Finally, the readiness of technical emergency teams played a vital role. These teams were prepared to swiftly address power outages across various areas, expedite repair operations, and ensure continuous power supply, even providing emergency generators during maintenance periods. The collective efforts across multiple sectors were essential in overcoming the unique pressures of the summer, including the impact of external attacks.
