Kwara seeks stakeholders’ input on digital healthcare reform

Kwara State is embarking on a significant digital transformation of its healthcare system, signaling a forward-thinking approach to improving service delivery for its citizens. The state government, through its Ministry of Health, has initiated a crucial three-day workshop in Ilorin, bringing together key stakeholders to chart a course for the National Digital Health Initiative within the state.

This initiative, as articulated by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Taoheed Abdullahi, is not merely a technical undertaking. It represents a vital pathway to translate national health policies into practical, actionable strategies that directly address the unique realities, opportunities, and challenges faced by Kwara State. The goal is to create a State-Specific Implementation Roadmap that ensures digital health programs are executed cohesively, accountability is enhanced, and resources are mobilized effectively to achieve measurable results.

The importance of digital transformation in achieving efficient, equitable, and sustainable healthcare delivery cannot be overstated, especially in the face of growing demands on the health system. Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina El-Imam, emphasized that the digitalization of health systems is paramount to achieving Universal Health Coverage and ensuring that all residents have access to quality healthcare services. The roadmap being developed is intended to provide clear direction, foster efficient resource mobilization, and ultimately deliver a tangible impact across the health sector.

Dr. Kudirat Lambe, the Focal Person for the National Digital Health Initiative, highlighted that the workshop would also involve reviewing existing state initiatives and assessing Kwara State's digital health landscape, infrastructure, and maturity level. The outcome is expected to be a practical four-year implementation plan designed to significantly improve healthcare coordination and service delivery throughout the state.
