Kwara Senator Saliu Mustapha resigns from APC

Senator Saliu Mustapha, representing Kwara Central Senatorial District, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC). The senator announced his departure from the ruling party in Kwara State via a Facebook post late Thursday, accompanied by a resignation letter dated August 14, 2026, addressed to the APC Chairman of Gambari Ward 1, Ilorin East Local Government Area.

Following careful consideration of the recent developments in the All Progressives Congress in Kwara State, I have formally resigned my membership of the party in the state.

Mustapha explained that his decision was prompted by "recent developments within the Kwara State chapter of the APC." He emphasized that the move followed weeks of "extensive consultations and engagements" with stakeholders, supporters, and constituents across his senatorial district and beyond. He stressed that the decision was not taken lightly.

This is not a decision I have taken lightly. It follows weeks of extensive consultations and engagements with relevant stakeholders, my supporters, constituents across Kwara Central Senatorial District, and well-meaning Kwarans.

"As a politician, I have always believed that politics must be about people, principles and purpose. Where the path of a political platform no longer sufficiently aligns with these convictions and the aspirations of the people one represents, the honourable thing to do is to chart a new course," Mustapha stated. He expressed gratitude to the APC leadership, including President Bola Tinubu, for the relationships and experiences gained during his party membership.

The senator assured his constituents, supporters, and political associates that his resignation from the APC would not diminish his dedication to representing them. "I assure you that while my political platform may change, my principles, my purpose and my commitment to the people remain unchanged," he said, reaffirming his steadfast service to the people of Kwara Central, Kwara State, and Nigeria at large. Mustapha's resignation occurs amidst political realignments in Kwara ahead of the 2027 general elections and growing internal disagreements within the state's APC chapter.
