Kwidzyn Castle Closes for 3+ Years for Major Renovation

Kwidzyn Castle is set to close its doors to visitors for more than three years as it undergoes a significant renovation. This extensive project, managed by the Malbork Castle Museum, is one of the largest investments in the historic object's history.

The comprehensive building and conservation work will encompass all levels of the castle. It includes repurposing currently unused spaces and adapting a section of the building at ul. Kruka 1 for a new permanent exhibition titled "Taki oto Kwidzyn" (This is Kwidzyn).

The total cost of the investment exceeds 64 million PLN, with 41.5 million PLN secured from the European Funds for Infrastructure, Climate, and Environment program. The majority of these funds will be allocated to construction and conservation efforts. These include replacing installations, upgrading carpentry, improving accessibility for people with disabilities, and preparing five new permanent exhibitions.

Museum officials anticipate that the renovation work will conclude by mid-2029. Following the construction phase, the installation of new exhibitions will commence. Before the extensive closure, the castle is hosting a special farewell event on Sunday, August 30, from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Visitors can attend for a symbolic 1 PLN entrance fee, enjoying guided tours, a medieval music concert, postcard-making workshops, and meetings with historical reenactors. A presentation of the concept for the future city exhibition is also planned.
