Kyrgyz National Opera to stage two premieres in June

Bishkek's National Opera and Ballet Theater is set to captivate audiences with two distinct premieres this June, showcasing both classical ballet and dramatic opera. The month's artistic offerings promise a rich cultural experience for theatergoers.

The first premiere, scheduled for June 21, is the classic ballet "La Sylphide." This iconic work, first performed in Paris in 1832, is considered a cornerstone of the Romantic era in ballet. The production will bring to life the enchanting tale of James, a young Scotsman, and his forbidden love for Sylphide, an ethereal air spirit. The performance is staged in a revised version by People's Artist of the Kyrgyz Republic, Aizada Tumakova, promising exquisite music, refined choreography, and an atmospheric journey to old Scotland.

Following the ballet, on June 28, the theater will unveil an updated rendition of Ruggero Leoncavallo's opera "Pagliacci." Performed in its original Italian, the opera draws its intense plot from a real-life incident: a traveling theater troupe's actor murders his wife on stage, driven by suspicion of infidelity. The opera is renowned for its powerful portrayal of human emotions and its profound impact on listeners.

Both productions are helmed by conductor Zakhar Butenko, with "La Sylphide" featuring set design by Sadyk Murzahanov and costumes by Ramis Abylmazhinov. "Pagliacci" boasts direction by Jypary Ibraimova and set design by Honored Artist of Culture of the Kyrgyz Republic, Yuldash Nurmatov. The premieres highlight the theater's commitment to preserving classical heritage while offering fresh interpretations.
