Kyrgyz police conduct nighttime raid targeting drug-impaired drivers in Bishkek

Kyrgyz police carried out a coordinated nighttime raid in Bishkek targeting drivers suspected of operating vehicles under the influence of narcotics. The operation, conducted between July 22 and 23, involved a significant deployment of law enforcement personnel from various specialized units, including the anti-drug departments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and regional police, as well as special forces and traffic police.

Eight stationary and mobile checkpoints were established on major thoroughfares and entry/exit points of the capital to maximize the operation's effectiveness. The primary objectives were to identify and apprehend drivers impaired by drugs, prevent traffic accidents, and curb related offenses. During the raid, officers inspected 517 vehicles.

The operation resulted in the identification of five drivers exhibiting signs of drug impairment, with five more sent for medical evaluation. Confirmed drug impairment was established for five drivers. Additionally, 22 administrative offense reports were filed, and seven vehicles were impounded and taken to a specialized storage facility. Police also engaged in preventative discussions with drivers, emphasizing the severe legal consequences and dangers associated with driving under the influence of narcotics or other substances.
