Kyrgyzstan Confirms No Citizens Missing After China-Nepal Mudslide

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic has stated that, according to preliminary information from Chinese authorities, no citizens of Kyrgyzstan are among those killed or missing in the recent mudslide that occurred in Tibet and affected Nepal.

The disaster took place on August 26, 2026, in the Jilong County of the Shigatse Prefecture in China's Tibet Autonomous Region. The mudslide was caused by an ice collapse in the mountains, leading to a massive flow of rock, mud, and water down the valley, which also impacted adjacent areas in Nepal.

As of August 27, Chinese authorities reported three fatalities and 558 people missing in the Tibet Autonomous Region. Two individuals were rescued, and search and rescue operations are ongoing, with casualty figures still being clarified. On the Nepalese side, 826 people are reported missing, including approximately 600 foreign tourists. Among the 558 missing in Tibet, 260 are identified as foreign nationals.

The Embassy of Kyrgyzstan in China is actively monitoring the situation and maintaining contact with Chinese government agencies to verify information regarding Kyrgyz citizens. The Ministry has provided contact numbers for consular assistance should any Kyrgyz citizens require support.
