Kyrgyzstan Officially Registers New Breed: The White Yak

Kyrgyzstan has officially recognized a new animal breed, the Kyrgyz Ak Topozu, commonly known as the Kyrgyz White Yak. The Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry announced that the state registration order for this new breed was signed on July 20 in the Issyk-Kul region. Erlist Akunbekov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Agriculture, signed the order at the Syrt pasture. The ministry highlighted the significant contribution of Tashtanbek Akmatov, a renowned breeder and public figure, in the development of the Kyrgyz Ak Topozu. His extensive work over many years was crucial in shaping the new breed. This achievement is attributed to the collaborative efforts of scientists, breeders, specialists, breeding farms, and livestock farmers. Through selective breeding practices conducted between 2014 and 2026, the new white yak breed was developed. It is characterized by its high productivity and its ability to adapt to high-altitude environments. The Kyrgyz White Yak is particularly valued for its high-quality white wool and underwool, making it a sought-after raw material for the textile industry.
