Kyrgyzstan president offers condolences over Tibet mudslide

Kyrgyzstan President Sadyr Japarov has conveyed his deepest condolences to Chinese President Xi Jinping following a devastating mudslide in China's Tibet Autonomous Region.

The natural disaster, which struck Gyirong County near the China-Nepal border on August 26, has led to significant loss of life and numerous disappearances. As of August 28, official figures reported three deaths and 558 people missing in Tibet, a number that includes 260 foreign nationals.

The impact of the mudslide extends to neighboring Nepal, where the death toll has tragically risen to 469, with around 1,000 individuals still unaccounted for. The scale of the disaster underscores the severe consequences of the event.

In a statement on behalf of the Kyrgyz people, President Japarov expressed solidarity with the families of the victims, sharing their pain and grief, and wishing a swift recovery to those affected. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan has indicated, based on preliminary information from the Chinese side, that no citizens of Kyrgyzstan are believed to be among the casualties or missing in either Tibet or Nepal.
