Kyrgyzstan reports multiple food poisoning incidents at resorts and cafes

Kyrgyzstan is grappling with a series of food poisoning incidents across the country, prompting health authorities to issue urgent warnings. A significant outbreak occurred on June 24 at the Akun resort in the Issyk-Kul region, where 30 individuals fell ill after consuming food from the resort's canteen. Inspections revealed violations of sanitary and epidemiological requirements, leading to fines and an order to rectify the issues.

Similar incidents have been reported in Jalal-Abad region, with 11 people affected by food poisoning from a café in the Asman swimming pool complex, and smaller groups falling ill in Mailuu-Suu and Manas. Authorities imposed fines and temporarily suspended the operations of one café.

In connection with these incidents and the start of the active tourist season, the department urged owners of resorts, hotels, cafés, restaurants, and other catering establishments to strictly comply with sanitary and epidemiological requirements.

With the peak tourist season underway, the Department of Disease Prevention and State Sanitary and Epidemiological Surveillance is emphasizing the critical need for strict adherence to sanitary standards. They are urging all food service establishments, including resorts, hotels, and restaurants, to prioritize food preparation safety, proper storage, staff hygiene, and regular medical check-ups. The department also advised citizens to be vigilant about the sanitary conditions of eateries, avoid unauthorized vendors, practice good personal hygiene, and seek immediate medical attention if experiencing symptoms of food poisoning.

In case of symptoms of food poisoning, such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, fever, or severe weakness, people are urged to seek medical assistance immediately and avoid self-medication.
