Kyrgyzstan's population grows to 7.46 million

Kyrgyzstan's population has reached 7.46 million as of July 1, 2026, marking an increase of 56,500 individuals during the first six months of the year. This growth represents a 0.8 percent rise in the country's permanent population.

The demographic expansion is primarily attributed to a natural increase, with 50,304 more births than deaths recorded during the period. Official statistics reveal that 66,272 newborns were registered between January and June 2026, a slight increase of 0.6 percent compared to the same period in the previous year. Concurrently, the number of deaths decreased to 15,968, contributing to the positive natural growth.

Regionally, the highest rates of natural population increase per 1,000 inhabitants were observed in the Batken (18.2), Osh (16.8), and Jalal-Abad (16.1) regions. In contrast, the capital city, Bishkek, recorded the lowest natural growth rate at 7.6 per 1,000 people.

However, Bishkek, along with Osh, leads in terms of population growth rate, with both cities experiencing an 1.1 percent increase in their resident populations. Bishkek's population now stands at 1.37 million, while Osh has reached 490,300 residents.
