'La captura,' Thriller by Mexican Director Chava Cartas, Recreates El Chapo Guzmán's Arrest

Netflix has unveiled the first trailer for 'La captura,' a new thriller from Mexican director Chava Cartas, which dramatizes the definitive arrest of notorious drug trafficker Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán in 2016. The film stars Alfonso Herrera and Noé Hernández as two federal police officers whose routine patrol takes an extraordinary turn when they stumble upon the world's most wanted criminal.

The streaming giant is positioning 'La captura' as a significant production focusing on organized crime in Mexico. The narrative unfolds in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, the very location where El Chapo was apprehended before his 2017 extradition to the United States. The trailer hints at a high-stakes scenario where the officers, Arturo Carmona (Herrera) and Héctor Rosales (Hernández), face a critical crossroads.

According to Netflix, the officers are presented with a stark choice: deliver El Chapo and jeopardize their careers and lives, or accept a substantial bribe and allow him to escape. This moral and professional quandary forms the core tension of the film. The trailer also reveals Hector Kotsifakis portraying El Chapo, the former leader of the powerful Sinaloa Cartel, and Juan Pablo Cruz García as Jorge Iván 'El Cholo' Gastélum, El Chapo's head of security and chief enforcer.

Directed by Cartas, known for his previous Netflix success 'Contraataque,' and scripted by Mexican writer Bernardo Esquinca, 'La captura' promises a gripping portrayal of a pivotal moment in Mexico's fight against drug cartels. The film is scheduled for release on August 21. Paola Fernández also appears as Isaura, Carmona's wife, adding a personal dimension to the unfolding drama.
