‘Labour-intensive’ 4-alarm fire at Etobicoke waste facility

Toronto firefighters responded to a four-alarm fire at a waste management facility in Etobicoke early Tuesday morning. The blaze, located at 156 Disco Rd., ignited just before 4 a.m. Heavy smoke billowed towards Highway 427, raising concerns about visibility for drivers.

Upon entering the building, firefighters found construction materials and insulation engulfed in flames. A portion of the building's roof subsequently collapsed. Fortunately, the facility was unoccupied at the time, and no injuries have been reported.

Commander John Carson stated that the four-alarm designation was implemented to rapidly deploy additional resources. This level of response typically involves 19 to 22 emergency vehicles. Fire crews were previously called to the same building in October 2025 for a larger incident that required 34 trucks and over 100 firefighters.

The fire is now under control, and crews are expected to remain on scene throughout the day. The cause of the fire remains undetermined, although officials have indicated there is nothing to suggest suspicious activity at this time.
