Lack of Stream Canalization in Juáres Parish Puts 30 Families at Risk

Around 30 families in Juáres parish, Iribarren municipality, Lara state, face imminent danger from a local stream due to a severe lack of canalization and maintenance. Residents report that the area has been vulnerable for over a decade, with no official action taken for approximately 15 years. The stream's channel is clogged with sediment, large stones, tree trunks, and debris, significantly reducing its drainage capacity.

Neighbors recall the critical flooding event of November 6, 2022, which caused severe damage to the area's slopes and roads. They warn that another significant rise in the stream's water level during the rainy season could lead to uncontrolled overflow, threatening homes and lives, particularly those of children and the elderly living along the banks.

The community has issued an urgent appeal to the Iribarren Mayor's Office and the Lara State Governorate. They request an immediate technical inspection and the commencement of cleaning and canalization efforts to avert a major tragedy in this agricultural and rural zone.
