Lagos arrests hoodlums accused of attacking motorists

The Lagos State Rapid Response Squad (RRS) has apprehended a group of suspected miscreants and hoodlums who were allegedly terrorizing motorists along the Lekki–Ajah Expressway. The arrests occurred during a midnight enforcement operation specifically targeting criminal elements operating in the area.

This operation follows a similar crackdown in March, which resulted in the arrest of approximately 25 individuals accused of harassing motorists on the same corridor. The latest suspects, described as "Omotaku," were apprehended by enforcement teams conducting a patrol and monitoring activities along major routes. The state Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed the arrests on Sunday, emphasizing that the operation focused on individuals involved in extorting, harassing, and intimidating drivers. Some suspects are also accused of vandalizing vehicles when their demands were not met.

The operation was targeted at individuals who allegedly harass and intimidate motorists, extort money from them and, in some instances, damage vehicles when motorists refuse to yield to their demands.

Wahab stated that the RRS will continue to conduct intelligence-led operations against criminal elements whose activities threaten public safety and impede the free movement of people and vehicles across the state. The Lekki-Ajah corridor has been a recurring site of such harassment, prompting consistent enforcement actions by security agencies.
