Lagos lawmaker distributes food, cash to constituents

Lagos Island Constituency I lawmaker Omolara Oyekan-Olumegbon demonstrated her commitment to constituent welfare through a recent distribution of food items and cash. This initiative, a personal endeavor supported by friends, aims to replicate grassroots impact seen at state and federal levels.

I have domesticated what is happening at the state and federal levels within my constituency by providing stipends to my people, no matter how small.

Oyekan-Olumegbon emphasized her dedication to improving the lives of her constituents, noting that the program has already provided stipends ranging from N10,000 to N20,000, with aspirations to increase this to N50,000 per beneficiary. Thousands have already benefited from these outreach efforts, which are set to continue.

This is my personal initiative, supported by a few friends. We started by giving N10,000 and N20,000, and we hope to increase it to N50,000 per beneficiary.

The lawmaker detailed a history of similar interventions, including back-to-school programs, solar projects, women empowerment schemes, and community development initiatives. Food items, originally valued at N10,000, were sold for N4,500, benefiting approximately 10,000 people in a recent exercise. She also mentioned an annual recreational initiative that brings an amusement park experience to children on Lagos Island.

We subsidise food items. In our last exercise, about 10,000 people benefited, with food items worth N10,000 sold for N4,500.

Beyond welfare, Oyekan-Olumegbon is actively engaged in political mobilization, conducting e-registration drives and voter education campaigns in multiple languages to encourage civic participation ahead of the 2027 general elections. She reiterated her pledge to deliver more people-oriented projects and sustain support for her constituents.
