Lahm believes Kimmich should play in midfield for Germany

Philipp Lahm, the former captain of Germany's 2014 World Cup-winning team, has voiced his opinion on Joshua Kimmich's position for the national squad. Lahm believes Kimmich should play in central midfield, mirroring his role at Bayern Munich throughout the current season.

In an interview with SportBild magazine, Lahm stated that Kimmich has consistently played in the center of the park, often alongside Aleksandr Pavlovic. He pointed to Bayern Munich's strong performances, including a narrow Champions League semi-final loss to PSG, as evidence of Kimmich's effectiveness in this role.

Lahm expressed his preference for a midfield axis comprising goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, defender Jonathan Tah, and Kimmich, all of whom are Bayern Munich players. He is not in favor of disrupting this established core by shifting Kimmich to right-back, a position national team coach Julian Nagelsmann has sometimes utilized him in.

To address the right-back position, Lahm suggested that Waldemar Anton, typically a center-back, could be deployed there. Lahm reasoned that Anton's more defensive style would provide balance, especially considering the offensive capabilities of David Raum on the left flank. This proposed lineup aims to create a more stable and balanced team structure.
