Lamborghini Revuelto SV Launched as Brand's Most Powerful Production Car; CEO Discusses PHEV Strategy

Lamborghini has officially unveiled its new performance flagship, the Revuelto SV, a limited edition model that pays homage to the 1971 Miura SV. This new supercar boasts a powerful plug-in hybrid system, combining a 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12 engine with three electric motors to deliver a combined output of 1,065 CV and 1,425 Nm of torque. This makes it the most powerful and fastest production car to date from Lamborghini's Sant'Agata Bolognese factory.

The Revuelto SV features a more aggressive, race-car-inspired exterior with extensive use of exposed carbon fiber and a fixed rear wing. Inside, the cockpit is designed around the "Feel Like a Pilot" concept, incorporating carbon fiber seats and a driver-centric layout. The car's performance is described as "The Quantum of Driving," signifying a shift to a new realm of driving experience. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.4 seconds and reaches 200 km/h in 6.7 seconds, with a top speed exceeding 345 km/h.

Enhancements for track performance include a new aerodynamic kit, four-way adjustable passive dampers derived from GT3 racing technology, and new CCM-R Plus carbon-ceramic brakes. Overall downforce has increased by 80% compared to the Revuelto, and the suspension system improves agility by 17% and lateral grip by 10%. The car also introduces the Pilota driving mode for a more race-car-like setup and is equipped with specialized Bridgestone Potenza Race R semi-slick tires and center-lock wheels. It has already set a lap record of 1 minute 41.6 seconds at Germany's Hockenheimring, making it the fastest production car on that track.

Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann explained the company's decision to delay fully electric supercars, stating that consumers are not yet ready for such technology. He believes that plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) will not be a mere transitional solution but a core part of Lamborghini's long-term strategy. Winkelmann emphasized that while Lamborghini is investing in electrification R&D, the company will prioritize consumer needs and the emotional driving experience, which includes the sound and mechanical feel of the internal combustion engine. He also noted the continued contraction of the Chinese luxury car market, which has seen a significant decline in recent years.
