Lampung Moves Classes Online as Mount Anak Krakatau Ash Spreads

Lampung is moving all school instruction online for two days as volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau spreads across parts of the province.

The policy, set out in Lampung Governor Regulation Circular No. 150 of 2026, applies from Monday, September 7, through Tuesday, September 8. It covers early childhood education, kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, vocational schools, and special schools.

The provincial government said the shift aims to protect students and education workers from exposure while keeping lessons running. School heads and teachers must continue working from schools and deliver instruction through available digital platforms. Parents and guardians have been asked to supervise students during learning from home.

Lampung Governor Rahmat Mirzani Djausal urged residents, especially students, teachers, and parents, to reduce outdoor activity while ash remains present. Those who must go outside should use masks or other suitable respiratory protection. The government said it will continue monitoring the volcano and ash distribution before deciding on further measures.
