Land Cruiser used as bribe for job auction in Kuantan Singingi

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) of Indonesia has uncovered a Toyota Land Cruiser 300, a 2023 model, that was allegedly used as a bribe in a government job auction within the Kuantan Singingi Regency of Riau.

Investigators believe the luxury vehicle was hidden by suspects during a KPK sting operation conducted in Kuantan Singingi on June 29, 2026. KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo announced on July 7, 2026, that the car was found on July 4, 2026, during searches in Kuantan Singingi and Pekanbaru, Riau. The vehicle was reportedly concealed in a vehicle storage warehouse in Pematang Siantar and is currently being transported to Jakarta via tow truck. Investigators noted that the vehicle's license plates may have been altered.

According to KPK officials, the Bupati of Kuantan Singingi, Suhardiman Amby, allegedly requested the Land Cruiser from two candidates vying for the position of Regional Secretary. One of the candidates, Zulkarnaen, who was the Head of the Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency, reportedly agreed to the demand and was subsequently appointed to the position for the 2025 term. To fulfill the Bupati's request, Zulkarnaen purchased the Land Cruiser for Rp 2 billion, intending to pay via a five-year loan with monthly installments of Rp 46.5 million. However, Zulkarnaen's financial profile did not meet the requirements for the loan, leading him to use the identity of Ardiles, the CEO of PT Mitra Ideal Consultant, to secure financing.

Furthermore, records indicate that Zulkarnaen had previously gifted a Mitsubishi Pajero worth Rp 700 million to Suhardiman in 2021 to secure the position of Head of the Public Works Agency. This purchase was also financed through a loan facilitated by Ardiles. Ardiles's company, PT Mitra Ideal Consultant, has reportedly benefited significantly, winning 14 projects totaling Rp 1.2 billion in the Public Works Agency during the 2022 fiscal year. The company also secured over Rp 966 million in projects from various agencies and the regional secretariat in 2025 and 2026.
