Langkat Regent Syah Afandin arrived at the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) headquarters in South Jakarta on Friday afternoon, July 3, 2026, for further investigation.

Afandin was apprehended on Thursday, July 2, 2026, during a sting operation targeting alleged bribery in projects within the Langkat Regency's Education and Public Housing departments. He was arrested at his private residence in Medan, North Sumatra.

The KPK detained a total of seven individuals across three different locations: Langkat Regency, Binjai City, and Medan City. These individuals underwent initial questioning at the Medan City Police headquarters following their arrest. Besides the regent, the KPK also arrested one civil servant (ASN) from Langkat Regency and five private sector individuals as part of the operation. However, only the regent was brought to the KPK headquarters in Jakarta.

During the operation, the KPK seized hundreds of millions of rupiah. This money is suspected to be part of project fees paid by private parties to the regent. The KPK stated that Afandin would undergo further examination.
