Large quantity of cocaine and automatic weapons seized in Kaunas; two suspects arrested

Authorities in Kaunas, Lithuania, have arrested two individuals following the discovery of a significant quantity of cocaine and automatic weapons. The operation, conducted by the Kaunas County Police Department's Organized Crime Investigation Division, uncovered at least 700 grams of what is believed to be cocaine.

Investigators suspect that approximately 100 grams of this substance were transferred between the two men for further distribution. During searches of the suspects' properties, additional items relevant to the investigation were found, including three firearms that were allegedly possessed without a permit. Two of these weapons are suspected to be automatic.

The suspects, a 49-year-old resident of Kaunas city and a 47-year-old resident of Kaunas district, face charges under articles 260 (part 2 and 3) and 253 (part 2) of the Lithuanian Criminal Code. The 49-year-old has no prior convictions, while the 47-year-old has a history of convictions in Lithuania for offenses including negligent bookkeeping, bribery, document forgery, fraud, and embezzlement. He has also been convicted abroad.

Both men have been subjected to the strictest pre-trial detention measure, arrest, by court order. The investigation is being organized and supervised by a prosecutor from the Organized Crime and Corruption Investigation Department of the Kaunas Regional Prosecutor's Office.
