Latin American Ex-Presidents to Attend Fujimori's Inauguration in Peru

Lima, Peru – Several prominent right-wing former presidents from across Latin America are set to attend the inauguration of Peru's President-elect Keiko Fujimori next Tuesday in Lima. The ceremony marks the beginning of her five-year term.

Peruvian Foreign Minister Carlos Pareja confirmed the attendance of several former leaders, including Ecuador's Jamil Mahuad, who signed peace accords with Alberto Fujimori, and Bolivia's Jeanine Áñez and Panama's Mireya Moscoso. Spain's opposition leader, Alberto Núñez Feijóo of the Popular Party, will also be present.

Other former presidents joining Fujimori include Paraguay's Mario Abdo Benítez and Chile's Eduardo Frei Ruiz-Tagle. International organizations will also be represented by figures such as the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Albert Ramdin, and the Executive Secretary of ECLAC, José Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs.

Fujimori secured victory by a slim margin of less than 50,000 votes, marking her successful fourth attempt at the presidency. Her election signifies the return of Fujimorismo to Peru's government, approximately 26 years after her father, Alberto Fujimori, resigned amid a major corruption scandal. He was later convicted for human rights abuses and other crimes.
