Latin Grammy Foundation awards $1.7 million in scholarships to music students

The Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation announced it has awarded more than $1.7 million in scholarships to talented, low-income music students from the United States and Ibero-America. The foundation's commitment aims to break down financial barriers and foster the next generation of musical talent.

Among the recipients is 17-year-old Puerto Rican violinist Razil Rosado Figueroa, who received the prestigious Prodigy Scholarship. Valued at up to $250,000 to cover a four-year bachelor's degree, Rosado will attend the Berklee College of Music in Boston. The scholarship is sponsored by singer-songwriter Noel Schajris.

Two vocalists from Miami, Lea Garza and Melissa Cruz, were awarded scholarships totaling $525,000 to study at the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami. Additionally, bassist Anahí Solano received a full presidential scholarship to Berklee, valued at $275,000, covering tuition, housing, and necessary computer equipment.

The foundation also distributed three four-year undergraduate scholarships worth up to $120,000 each. These included the Celia Cruz Legacy Scholarship for saxophonist Franco Dilmé Romero, the Kany García Scholarship for clarinetist Gabriela Farinas, and the Manolo Díaz Scholarship for bassist David Amparo. Several smaller scholarships, ranging from $10,000 to $12,500, were also provided to cover tuition expenses, supported by corporate sponsors and regional Mexican music groups.

Since its inception in 2014, the Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation has dedicated over $17 million to scholarships, grants, musical instruments, and educational programs across the United States and Ibero-America, demonstrating a sustained effort to support aspiring musicians.
