Latvian Soldiers Use Tear Gas, Fire Warning Shot at Border Aggressors

Latvian soldiers were forced to deploy tear gas and fire a warning shot into the air after confronting aggressive individuals on the country's eastern border with Belarus. The incident occurred within the last 24 hours while National Armed Forces (NBS) soldiers were providing support to the State Border Guard.

According to reports, the individuals behaved aggressively, throwing wooden sticks at the soldiers. To de-escalate the situation and halt the illegal activities, the soldiers first used tear gas. When the individuals continued to ignore official demands and maintained their aggressive stance, a single warning shot was fired into the air.

Following the warning shot, the individuals retreated into Belarusian territory. The NBS described the event as another provocation on the Latvian-Belarusian border, reiterating that Belarus continues to utilize illegal migration as a tool of hybrid warfare. The National Armed Forces stated they will continue to support the State Border Guard on Latvia's eastern border.
