Lech Poznań collapses, misses Champions League after penalty shootout loss

Lech Poznań suffered a dramatic collapse, losing to Denmark's Aarhus GF on penalties and missing out on a Champions League spot. The Polish champions squandered a commanding three-goal advantage from the first leg, ultimately falling 4-1 in the second leg and losing the shootout 3-4.

The match at home saw Aarhus claw back the deficit. Kristian Arnstad and Tobias Bech scored in the first half, narrowing the gap. After halftime, Arnstad converted a penalty, leveling the aggregate score. Frederik Tingager's header in the final 15 minutes forced extra time, completing Aarhus's comeback.

Lech briefly regained hope in the 95th minute when substitute Filip Jagiełło scored. However, 18-year-old Tomas Oli Kristjansson quickly equalized for Aarhus, pushing the game to penalties. In the shootout, Jagiełło converted Lech's first penalty, but subsequent misses by Allahyar Sayyadmanesh and Antoni Kozubal sealed their elimination.

"I can't say anything smart. We had everything in our hands, and today we are eliminated. It's hard to say what our biggest problem was. I think the result in Aarhus distorted reality," Jagiełło told TVP Sport. The elimination means Lech Poznań will now compete in the Europa League qualifiers, falling short of their Champions League ambitions.
