Lee Jae-myung Calls for Clear Final Accountability After Jeju Missing-Person Case

President Lee Jae-myung has ordered a review of South Korea's missing-person response system after the disappearance of a woman in Jeju who was later found dead.

There is great public concern regarding the Jeju missing-person case. What I am asking is that the responsibility of the final person responsible for missing-person cases be made clear.

Speaking at a Cabinet meeting, Lee said public concern over the Jeju case was high and called for the final official responsible in missing-person cases to be clearly identified.

Suicide and lonely deaths have complete statistics and systems. I wonder whether missing-person cases should also be included as an important category among these items.

He also directed officials to produce detailed statistics on cases in which missing people are later found dead, saying missing-person cases should be given a defined place within existing statistical and administrative systems.
